Our Programs

SAY YES Service Access for Youth Engaged in Service: Homeless Drop-in
Wednesdays 12:00 pm – 3:00 pm; Monday/Tuesday/Thursday 4pm-7pm
Ages: 25 and under
Partners: This growing collaboration includes the Homeless Children’s Education Fund, Greater Pittsburgh Literacy Council, Allegheny County Department of Human Services, Gay and Lesbian Community Center (GLCC), PERSAD, UPMC Department of Pediatric Medicine and nurse practitioner, Joanne Goodall, Mercy Behavioral Health, Community Human Services, Family Links, Allegheny County Shuman Juvenile Detention Center, Pittsburgh Public Library, Katie Harrison (Lawyer), Rebecca Pounds (Dentist), Allegheny Intermediate Unit, Kiwanis Club of East Liberty, and Jessica Lee from Pittsburgh Gateways

This drop in is open to all GLBTQIA youth who are currently experiencing or are in danger of becoming homeless. Health Care for the Homeless is available from 12:30-3:00 pm on Wednesdays, providing basic health care and free referral. Greater Pittsburgh Literacy Council tutors are available for those looking to gain literacy skills or who want to complete the GED. Additional support is also available (examples include housing search, resume help, job search and other resources).

Wednesday Clinic
Wednesdays from 12:00pm – 3:00 pm

Ages: 25 and under
Partners: Health Care for the Homeless
The GLCC’s Wednesday Clinic provides youth under age 25 with healthcare services including assistance in enrolling in health insurance. Services include: 

  • Trans* client services
  • Evaluation
  • Education and counseling
  • Hormone prescriptions for uninsured, under-insured and homeless trans* youth
  • Free physical exams
  • Free limited acute and chronic care
  • Labs will require insurance or self-pay
  • Gynecological care and contraception
  • Labs will require insurance or self-pay
  • HIV & STD testing

Mental Health Counseling
Wednesdays from 12:00 pm – 3:00 pm for all ages;
Ages: All ages on Wednesdays, 25 and under on Fridays
Partners: Persad Center, LPC Family Links
The GLCC provides access to mental health counseling for GLBTQIA members of our community. Often, it can be difficult for GLBTQIA people to know where to go for mental health services. The GLCC connects them with evaluation, counseling and referral to other GLBTQIA friendly counselors and organizations.

Community Resource Information Systems Desk ( CRIS DESK)
Monday-sat. 12pm -9pm
Provides resources over the phone for any and all community needs.

HIV Testing 
Thursdays from 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm
Ages: All
Partners: UPMC Adolescent, Healthcare for the Homeless

The GLCC provides free anonymous HIV testing every Thursday evening to people of all ages.

GLCC Youth Drop-in 
Fridays 7:00 pm – 10:00 pm
Ages: 14-18

The GLCC Youth Drop-in provides a safe space for GLBTQIA and allied youth ages 14-18. Youth come for games, conversation and networking in a safe and welcoming environment.

Real Time – Real Talk, Real Friends 
Tuesdays, 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm
Ages: 13-25
Partners: Persad Center

This program provides an evening of unique activities for youth, such as raffles, workshops, movies, etc. with the aim of preventing suicide among vulnerable populations.

OUTrageous Bingo
Ages: All
Partners: Shepherd Wellness, Rodef Shalom, Steel City Bowling League

OUTrageous Bingo is a fun, alcohol-free night of performances and bingo. The event raises money for both the Gay & Lesbian Community Center and Shepherd Wellness, an HIV/AIDS organization in Pittsburgh. This event provides members of the GLBTQIA community of all ages with a fun, friendly activity outside of the “bar scene”, where they can network, relax and be entertained.

Ages:  25 and Under

Respect is a program that provides GLBTQIA youth with interventions focusing on harm reduction. Participants set goals for themselves to reduce their risky behavior, including drug and alcohol abuse. With each visit, participants learn to monitor their progress toward their goals, and to set new goals that build on their previous success.

Street Smart
Ages: 25 and under
Partners: Persad Center

Street Smart is an 8-week drug and alcohol intervention program, which focuses on enhancing coping skills and providing decision support. The program aims to help GLBTQIA youth make smarter decisions and reduce drug and alcohol use in this vulnerable population.

Ages: 18-25
Spectrum organizes fun and exciting outings for GLBTQIA and allied youth.

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 4:00pm – 7:00 pm
Ages: 25 and younger
Partners: Homeless Children Education Fund

As an expansion on the tutoring services offered during the SAY YES program on Wednesdays, the GLCC now offers tutoring through the Homeless Youth Education Fund every Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. These services are provided to enhance academic performance among GLBTQIA youth who are still in school, or to support those who are planning to obtain their GED.

Ages: ALL Ages
The library includes 9,000 volumes of GLBTQIA themed literature and media for free lending to the whole community.

Game Night
Monthly, Every 4th Saturday, 6pm-9pm
Ages: 18+

Game night is a monthly board game gathering open to GLBTQIA people over age 18. People come to participate in new and old obscure board games that everyone can play.

Craft Night
Monthly, Every 1st Thursday, 6pm-9pm
Ages: 18+

This program is open to novice and expert GLBTQIA crafters from around the Pittsburgh area. GLBTQIA people come to share a talent or just spend time around other crafty types.

GLCC Women’s Gathering
Monthly, Every 2nd Sat.  3pm-5pm
Ages: 21+

A time for GLBTQIA women 21+ to get together and network, hang out and make new friends outside of the bar environment.

GLCC Men’s Gathering
Monthly, Every 2nd Saturday 12pm-3pm
Ages: 21+

A time for GLBTQIA men 21+ to get together and network, hang out and make new friends outside of the bar environment.

GLCC Potluck and Movie Night
Monthly, Every 3rd Sunday 6pm-9pm
Ages: All

This program encourages GLBTQIA of all ages to bring a dish to share and watch a movie with new friends.
