What we do
During our Phoneline hours, people from all walks of life call
us to ask questions, hear a voice or just have someone to talk to. We are a 100%
volunteer organization, here to serve you.
We have all been down that path of uncertainly, not knowing if we should feel or
even think the way we do. All of us have been there and sometimes just to hear the
reassurance that someone else has been there is all we need.
If you are looking for a GLBT doctor, lawyer, pharmacy, coffeehouse, place to shop
or even bar information we are the resource you need.
Our Calls
We average over 200 a month during our regular Phoneline hours.
Our statistics show that we have callers from the ages of 14 and up. We strive to
answer a wide variety of questions from a wide variety of people.
A Caller
Is anyone that has any questions pertaining to Pittsburgh, the
GLBT community, the people that support us, the GLCC facility itself, or what is
up and coming in Pittsburgh. We have had callers in the past that call us, then
hang up once we answer. They hesitate to talk to us - not knowing what to say or
how to approach the subject.
Call us when you feel ready. Remember - it is anonymous calling, we have no idea
who you are we just know we want to be there for you.
Questions that we may be asked
How
do you know if you are lesbian or gay?
Why
do I think I am the only person that feels like this?
How
will my family handle it when they find out, if I tell them?
I
want to come out to my friends and family, but how do I do it?
My
friend's son is gay, where should he go and how can he establish friends?
Is
it wrong to be a male and dress in women's clothing?
What
is the best bar to go to tonight?
What
does the GLCC offer to Pittsburgh?
Female / Male Callers
We are staffed with male and female volunteers. If you are a female
caller and a male answers, please feel free to ask if a female volunteer is there.
If one is not available and you can wait, ask the PhoneLine volunteer when the next
day a female will be in. The same goes for a male caller. Remember we are here to
make you as comfortable as we can. Yet if you need answers straight away just let
us know.
What we can provide to you
Is a person who can probably share his or her thoughts and experiences
with you, make you feel at ease and with whom you can feel free to communicate.
