GLSEN Pittsburgh’s Annual Meeting

GLSEN Pittsburgh’s Annual Meeting

You are cordially invited to join the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN) Pittsburgh at their Annual Meeting on Monday, June 12th between the hours of 6:00pm and 9:00pm at the City Theatre. No RSVP is required.

Alice Greene, Sara Luby, Bart Rauluk and Reverend Renee Waun will be stepping down from the GLSEN Board of Directors and honored for their many years of outstanding service. Each honoree has donated countless hours to further GLSEN Pittsburgh’s mission of making all schools safe and respectful, regardless of students’ sexual orientation or gender identify/expression. Their dedication will be celebrated!

Steve Orner, GLSEN Pittsburgh’s Program Coordinator, educator and friend will receive the annual Power of One award for his outstanding work in educating well over 6,000 individuals concerning the devastating effects of bullying and harassment in America’s schools. His workshops and presentations have provided attendees with the skills and resources needed to make schools safe and accepting for countless GLBT students, teachers and administrators.

At the event, the many accomplishments of GLSEN Pittsburgh will be shared. Other remarkable individuals who have supported GLSEN Pittsburgh’s mission over the past year will be recognized.

The newly released short film Gay Youth will be shown. Gay Youth has been called “a milestone” because it breaks the silence surrounding adolescent homosexuality in a way that is both powerful and accessible. It contrasts the suicide of 20-year old Bobby Griffith with the remarkable life of 17-year old Gina Gutierrez. Gay Youth shows that information, acceptance, and support make enormous differences in the lives of young people.

An informative and spirited panel discussion from several amazing GLBT individuals and straight allies will engage you.

GLSEN Pittsburgh hopes you will join them in honoring Alice, Bart, Renee, and Sara for making GLSEN Pittsburgh what it has become while introductions are made to the new, and ever expanding, Board of Directors. Be sure to visit www.glsenpgh.org on a regular basis to keep abreast of GLSEN’s resources and events.
