Everybody rise – Elaine Stritch is coming to Pittsburgh !

Legendary actress to perform her award-winning one-woman show as a benefit

Pittsburgh, PA – October 1, 2008. Pittsburgh Irish & Classical Theatre, in association with Cabaret Pittsburgh, presents the legendary Elaine Stritch in the Pittsburgh premiere of her Tony Award-winning one-woman show Elaine Stritch: At Liberty. The one-night-only performance will be on Saturday, October 18th at 8 p.m. in The Charity Randall Theatre at the Stephen Foster Memorial on the University of Pittsburgh campus in Oakland .

Elaine Stritch: At Liberty won the 2002 Tony Award for Best Special Theatrical Event, the 2002 Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Book of a Musical, and the 2002 Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Solo Performance. The telecast of the show also won two Primetime Emmy Awards in 2004. The evening of music and comedy traces Stritch's life and career, which has included Tony-nominated performances in A Delicate Balance, Bus Stop, Sail Away and Company, where she originated the role of Joanne.

Accompanied by her long-time musical director and collaborator Rob Bowman, she will perform the songs of Stephen Sondheim, Noël Coward, Richard Rogers, Johnny Mercer and Irving Berlin, among others. Directed by George C. Wolfe, with script by Stritch and John Lahr, the show is a funny, touching and candid revelation of her life experiences, including her battle with alcoholism. From her first experiences in New York as a naïve 17-year-old (including her date with classmate Marlon Brando) to director Hal Prince's unfailing faith in her (even after she froze and forgot part of a song on opening night of Company), the sassy, one-of-a-kind actor holds nothing back.

Stritch is currently a recurring cast member on the NBC television sitcom "30 Rock," where she plays Colleen Donaghy, mother of Jack (played by Alec Baldwin). Her work on "30 Rock" was honored when she won the 2007 Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series, and she has been nominated again for 2008. Stritch's prior Emmy win was in 1993 for her guest appearance on "Law and Order." Other film and television credits include: " Providence ," Cocoon: The Return, September, An Unexpected Wife, Small Time Crooks, Autumn in New York and Monster-in-Law.

Tickets are $50, $75, and $250; the $250 VIP tickets include a post-performance reception. Business and individual sponsorship packages are also available and start at $300. VIP tickets and sponsorships will be sold through the PICT office at 412-561-6000 x207 starting September 5th. $50 and $75 seats are available through ProArts at 412-394-3353 or online at www.proartstickets.org. $250 VIP tickets are available by calling 412-561-6000 x207.
