[GLCC NewsBlast: 187] Geocaching with Wilderness Women of Pittsburgh

Wilderness Women of Pittsburgh is organized by some lesbians who enjoy
adventures in the beautiful greater Pittsburgh area. Please join us
this Saturday if possible for an adventure with geocaching and some
frisbee golf.

Geocaching is treasure hunting using G.P.S. and geocaching.com listed
hidden "caches". We will meet at Phipps in the cafe at 10:00 a.m.
The organizer has exta handheld G.P.S. units to share. No prior
experience is required. There is one hidden outside in the public area
around the conservatory. It includes some clues that might just teach
you a new thing or two about Phipps along the way. After that there
are quite a few cool caches within walking distance from there. The
terrain in the area is easy. One suggestion for parking is by the
Carnegie Library on the other side of the Schenley Bridge. Please
feel free to email me with other parking suggestions or car pool
offers & requests.

Depending on how long we choose to geocache, we could catch some lunch
somewhere and then I'd be up for some frisbee golf at the course
(again in walking distance) at Schenley Park. Bring your own frisbee.

Raindate is the next day Sunday August 30th, same time/place. Please
let me know if you are thinking about joining in so we can make sure
we don't take off before everyone has time to get there.

Take a peek at our website for more information about Wilderness Women
of Pittsburgh atwildernesswomen.org

a
total of 18 bowling weeks, starting with practice at 6:15 pm. The
first
night September 13th everyone meets at 5:30 pm to fill out paper work
and organize the teams. The league fees are the same as last year, $12
per bowler per night of bowling.

[GLCC NewsBlast: 180] THE GAY & LESBIAN COMMUNITY CENTER OF PITTSBURGH ANNOUNCES NEW LOCATION AND CAPITAL CAMPAIGN

THE GAY & LESBIAN COMMUNITY CENTER OF PITTSBURGH ANNOUNCES NEW
LOCATION AND CAPITAL CAMPAIGN

The Gay & Lesbian Community Center of Pittsburgh (GLCC) is relocating
from Squirrel Hill to
210 Grant Street as of September 2009. With input from a wide range
of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LBGT) community groups and
individuals, careful consideration was given to providing a safe,
handicapped accessible, visible and attractive space with options for
parking or proximity to public transportation. With significant
renovation, the downtown location will feature a staffed reception
desk and conference rooms that will accommodate both small and large
group meetings. There will be four office spaces for other LBGT
nonprofit groups and a dedicated health services office to expand men
and women's health care screenings and to provide prevention care.
Also included will be a serving kitchen, a kitchenette, the largest
LBGT library in Western Pennsylvania, a gallery-style art exhibit
space, comfortable socializing areas including a pool table, and Wi-Fi
internet access.

Renovations are underway at the new centralized location, which will
position the GLCC to better serve all Pittsburghers.

Costs for the renovation are estimated to exceed $150,000. An initial
leadership gift from the Delta Foundation and ongoing support by the
Lambda Foundation have enhanced the newly established Robert M.
Eppinger Memorial Fund for renovations needed to the new location.
Additionally, the Marshall Singer fund will support the creation of an
art exhibit space. A capital campaign has been initiated by the GLCC
Board of directors to cover the remainder of the costs. Included are
opportunities to name space in honor of a friend, partner, mentor or
special occasion with a generous gift. For further information contact
Gary McKillop (quickkey@live.com or 412-727-0400), GLCC Director of
Development.

Gay & Lesbian Community Center of Pittsburgh (GLCC)
Over the past 30 years, the GLCC has provided Pittsburgh's lesbian,
bisexual, gay, and transgender (LBGT) individuals, their families and
supporters in Western Pennsylvania with programming, resources and
opportunities for education, visibility, social support, networking
and advocacy. GLCC services include a confidential and supportive
Phone Help Line, the largest LBGT library in western Pennsylvania,
Youth programming, our Pride Direct business directory, social events
such as OUTrageous Bingo, affordable office space for diverse LBGT
organizations and meeting space available to all individuals or
organizations that support and enrich our Pittsburgh communities.
